Course summary
This course will provide you with modelling and control concepts of advanced power electronic components involved in smart mini-grid systems. It will allow you to understand the state-of-the -art theories, methods for analysis, control and design of power flow in smart grid applications using power electronics components.
Application of solid-state electronics to control and convert the electrical power uses Power Electronics. The earlier high power electronic device made up of using the mercury arc valves. Now a day the diodes, thyristors, power MOSFET, IGBT used for the conversion and control of power systems. Substantial amount of electrical energy is processed by the power electronics. Many of the consumer electronic devices use the AC/DC converter (Rectifier). Examples of the rectifier used applications are computers, battery chargers, and television etc., Ten to several watts of power ranges used normally. The solid-state electronics used in the industry for the controlling the induction motor as variable speed drive. The variable speed drive uses 100 watts to tens of megawatts. This course focuses on the power conversion systems and its application in renewable energy systems. We hope that you will find these learning materials stimulating, enjoyable and useful.
