Course Overview

In this course you will have an opportunity to learn about the regulatory frameworks, policies and technical and environmental standards that impact on the implementation of mini-grids. This course will also expose you standards on contracting, licensing as well as monitoring and evaluating mini-grid related services, in particular Risk and Impact Assessments for a national context.


Course Description

This course will teach the student about generic and mini-grid regulatory frameworks and policies that an entrepreneur needs to comply with in order to successfully operate in international and national markets. The course also looks at the demand side of energy equation, in particular on how to engage with billing for services and products and the compliances that are required.

Analyse the structure, operation and stakeholders of the mini-microgrid and value chain markets on the continent and in local contexts

Design mini-grid system in compliance with existing policy and regulations in force in a location

Conduct externalities and societal impact analysis of a mini-grid system in both urban and rural communities
